Costa Rica Beach
The chic Playa Flamingo is undoubtedly one of the more beautiful beaches in Guanacaste. It has thick jungle vegetation that hugs steep cliffs and the beach has bright white sand that looks and feels like sugar. The beach does not have a big village center, as most of the area is home to lavish homes and beach front resorts. The town center consists of a shopping plaza with a car rental agency, a few boutiques, some restaurants and a small grocery store. Within a short drive is a renowned 18-hole championship golf course. Although there can be big waves on occasion, the Blue Flag beach makes for great swimming as it has a fine sand bottom and no strong currents. It a quiet beach, and you are likely to have the whole beach to yourself on most days!
A short distance from Flamingo lie the world famous Islas Catalinas, one of Costa Rica’s most popular scuba diving location. An archipelago of about twenty rock outcroppings, the Islas Catalinas are surrounded by pristine indigo colored water. With its huge variety of marine life it is considered a divers paradise. Best known for their Giant Pacific Manta Ray, they are also inhabited by barracudas, pilot whales, spinner dolphins, sharks, turtles, angel fish, etc.
